Happy Saturday Fam!
Hope Y’all enjoying your weekend so far?

We are almost in the wedding season and I love it!

I love weddings. Seriously, I love the dancing till you need to kick off your heels, the venues, the sweetly in-love couples and the boat-loads of inspiration for my own wedding lol and of course, the style. I just really enjoy it all.

Ok, I don’t even know how to explain in words how much I love this outfit from Gertrude Ross. I know many of you have seen the video/photo on Instagram (@mhiss_nana). While I want to stay true to my style, I also always want to be dressed appropriately. There’s a lot of talk about what not to do when attending a wedding, really, by following just a few basic style parameters out of respect for the bride and groom, you’ll have a dress that you’ll feel like a million dollars in (and that hopefully, you can wear again and again. So if you’re heading off to a wedding and are looking for a little guest style inspiration then scroll through this post to see more as I share complete easy style tips to nail the next wedding you are invited to!

While these days many people are going the non-traditional route with their weddings, there are a few things I never wear unless the bride & groom specify otherwise. I’d always rather air on the side of being respectful than just assume that anything goes at someone else’s wedding. Here are a few wedding guest style no-no’s and yes-yes’s you should consider:

  1. Theme: I don’t know about you, but finding a dress for a wedding can be difficult! But when a theme is specified, it helps makes things easier. Otherwise, I usually dress based on the venue and time of year/weather and comfort.
  2. Think comfort: This may just be me, but comfort in styling is relative. While a swingy, flare-y dress might be comfortable to most, I prefer fitting outfits at weddings. Though I very much look forward to eating (cos I have a very…”healthy” appetite). But if you are unlike me, I advise you go for a loose outfit. Weddings are actually pretty active, from moving from venue to venue to (of course) dancing your butt off later in the evening.
  3. Be colorful: While style has generally moved towards more of a muted color palette over the last few years (and quite frankly, I’m all for it in my day-to-day dressing), a wedding, in particular, is the time to reach for that coral, scarlet red, cobalt blue or chartreuse dress. All the colors you skip over in favor of black. Best of all, if you can find a bold color that works cross-seasonally like this number I’m wearing here, then you can break it out for any other weddings in any other season too.
  4. Comfortable shoes (or pack flats!): Nothing screams miserable than wearing uncomfortable pinchy heels for long hours. But if your heart is set on some less-than-cozy but stunning footwear, the pack a pair of collapsible flats/sandals into your clutch/handbag so that at least you have a stylish alternative when the discomfort becomes too much.

Another side of the spectrum is what-not-to-wear:

  1. White or Black: This one is an obvious one – never wear white or black to a wedding! Very occasionally the couple will decide to let their guests know that wearing white or black is totally fine and the dress code is “anything goes/wear what ya like!” sort of wedding, but typically it’s something you don’t want to try. It can come off as really disrespectful and rude to the bride. So basically as a rule of thumb, if you haven’t been told otherwise – don’t wear white or black.
  2. Be a Lady: Anything overly short, low cut or showy is just kind of a no-no in my books. I’ve found opting for a ladylike dress is not only the easiest option but the most appropriate and respectful choice too. Wear something figure-flattering of course, but if there was ever a time to not have your cleavage hanging out or your dress barely covering your bottom half…well, a wedding would be it. But I mean, just never do that period, except for maybe in Vegas. Also don’t show up looking too casual, unless the wedding calls for casual attire (and even then, you can still make a pretty piece casual enough to work).

For this wedding, I decided to wear the color peach cos that’s the wedding color! To keep everything light and airy, I styled the dress with my nude pumps for some height and a classic appeal and then finished it off with my off-white clutch to keep everything neutral. I didn’t want to go over the top by accessorizing, simplicity was the key here to make the dress stand out and look elegant. What do you think of it?

Happy viewing lovelies and remain blessed!!  As always thanks for stopping by and have an awesome week ahead while staying STYLISH
